- Over the last 92 years, I have learned a few things about being independent. As a professional working woman, I spent more than 50 years taking care of clients. My family and myself. I entered the world of publishing, working in 1947. I opened my own public relations agency at the age of 60 and served as its president for nearly twenty-five years, until I retired. I still live on my own, independently, with the support of friends and family. I decided to write The Independent Elderly as a way of sharing with others some of the common sense tips and techniques I’ve learned along the way.
